Draw a card also no longer has the 1,2 punch of play your first land and guarantee your 2nd one.

Could be reveal the top N cards and put a land into your hand, or reveal cards until you reveal a land. That would stay close to the original intention without shuffling.

Revealing the top 5 will usually hit and is a lot faster. With that we loose the deck thinning but could find nonbasic lands which is probably more fun. You can probably put the rest on the bottom in the order of your choice without the player feeling like that choice matters because it is only 5 cards at a time.
