I had a hard time thinking of black peculiar cards, what can black do a bit? But, black can do lots of things with life it can't do without. (Albeit, the combined version is life loss rather than damage to the player, but it has much the same effect as red's "2 damage to creature and controller")

It took me a moment to figure out why gaining life was red.
