Experimenting with common Nonpermanent -> Artifact Research ALT cards. Not sure this is actually doable, but why not try it?

How about {1}, {t}: Target creature can't block this turn.

That isn't black, nor do I see why that's better than the current iteration.

I feel like it fits the flavour of a fear toxin more, but that's just me

Ah, no, I can see that. The flavor is subject to change though.

But the flavour is delicious :(

Oh well

It doesn't necessarily need to be a black ability. A 3 cost artifact that prevents blocking is reasonable in and of itself. It also fits the flavour. Black could bend a little to have that, anyways. See Visions of Brutality.

I might be on board if it became an equipment that granted menace. Unnerving Assault // Unnatural Mask, anyone?

I was trying to avoid Equipment at common, though now that I think about it, this probably would indeed be better asn equipment. Good idea, continuumg.

I'm not a fan of this card.

@Doombringer: Care to elaborate? We could drain life but that takes us close to the Red one. I'm pretty sure we don't want repeated discard, -1/-1, or raise dead. I don't see a reason to exile cards from graveyard. Lifelink or deathtouch are the only other simple black effects I can think of and I like menace more than those.

We could add +1/+0 or +1/+1 if we restrict the activation to sorcery timing.

I think both sides are unplayable in limited and underwhelming in effect.

Here is an alternative:

It's an instant, but the top left corner has the sorcery symbol.

Also, it's a DFC, so sun and moon are necessary.

Also, while mechanically connected, I don't see a thematic connection.

What if it cost {b} // {1} and had equip {1}

If we are going equipment then I think it is even easier to slap a +1/+0 on there to increase the impact. Then it can do something even when you aren't attacking or when your opponent has lots of small creatures.

Actually, I remembered why I was avoiding equipment at common - these are meant to synergize with canisters. :P

You don't need a sun and moon for a DFC, continuumg... see the DFCs of Origins. They used completely different symbols.

changed to new design

I preferred the tight cycle of always getting half the effect from the artifact.

Mm, this just stands out egregiously. It's definitely a step forward from the previous design, I think.
