Yeah, this does seem a bit too powerful, actually. Hm... gimme a moment.

Edit: New card is only related in that both make "Protection from Deserts" relevant for deckbuilding, but is probably more balanced.

Whoops, knew I was forgetting something. Removed the ETB tapped clause as well.

Although maybe I should leave in the tapped clause and remove the one restricting it to only creature spells? Yes, it would be powerful in creature-less decks... but you'd still need to build around it and wait a turn to use it.
