There are surprisingly few legends that support playing big things and have both red and green in their color identities, so I decided to try my hand at making a new one.

Those activated abilities should be way cheaper, considering his cost and the fact that he doesn't even affect himself. It's also disappointing when a big fatty has tap abilities that you want to use.

Green gets vigilance tertiary. That would make this less feel-bad.

Isn't green secondary it vigilance? It gets it all the time.

Was it secondary? Either way, you can put vigilance on this card.

Yeah, I leaned towards caution when pricing those abilities, since if you have a way to untap him (and activate both) while you have big guys on the field it more or less ends the game right there. Probably too cautious though; gimme a moment and I'll make some edits.

Edit: There we go. Considered adding a red keyword to go with the green one, but there weren't any I could think of that weren't either redundant or powerful enough that I would feel inclined to nerf other aspects of the card.

Yikes. This only does anything once you've got a creature out that's already got 8 power or toughness? When you've got an 8/* out, does it really need a +1/+1 counter? I'd rather have a way to get my 4/4s and 6/6s up to 8/8.

The counters are there in large part because there's less rules wierdness to deal with if you format it that way (Also, it lets you grow creatures that only temporarily have that level of power/toughness, i.e. via firebreathing and such). It's largely to mark which creatures get the bonus.

That said, you're probably correct in thinking that this is underpowered as it is. I made this largely because there were few commanders in red and green that reward you for having big creatures out. There's Xenagos, and Mayael and Animar rewards you for having big guys in your deck... but otherwise, I can't think of any with "build-around-me" effect in those colors that reward that kind of play. This may not have been the right approach to this, admittedly. Give me a minute and I'll try something new with him.

Edit: There we go. Is this better? It may be a bit too wordy...

Mmm, layers are not your friend with this ability. Unfortunate power and toughness are processed in a later layer than abilities, and therefore the static ability here that tries to grant haste, trample, vigilance, and reach doesn't function.

Yeah, that's what I was trying to avoid with the +1/+1 Counter wording, since it ignores layers altogether (well, mostly).

I'll see about reworking it come tomorrow.

Well, this probably works better, even if it's perhaps less interesting.

Seems pretty lackluster as a 0/0.

Fair enough. Upgraded to a 4/4.

That looks like a reasonable tweak on Xenagos, God of Revels, yes. Granting haste and indestructible to everything is comparable to granting a nondestructive Berserk to one thing.

Why "you may"? Why wouldn't you?

Point. Edited.
