The idea is that the legacy weapon would have equip equal to the creature's CMC and bonuses equal to its P/T.
(The legacy weapon, not the Legacy Weapon, of course.)
I could see this more easily as an Aura effect. "Exile it and target creature gets +2/+2." That way you could reflect it with the creature card itself. Needing a bunch of different Equipment tokens all with different stats sounds like a recipe for confusing play.
Hmm. That was the intent behind exiling it; you could then use the creature as a representation of the equipment token, perhaps using a counter as a reminder that it's not a creature anymore. But I see your point.
