Ah, it's another incarnation of Absorb as on Lymph Sliver. (This seems fine though.)

Yeah as I stated in another comment, Absorb seems more like its a keyword for absorbing magical energy rather than damage. I see absorb as someting like:

Absorb {2}: Whenever a spell or ability targets this, counter that spell unless its caster pays {2}.

or Absorb {1}{r}: Whernever a spell targets this, add {1}{r} to your mana pool.
