zombie spirit? why not Beast Elemental or something more green and blue.

Set throws back to all sets currently in modern, Zombie and Spirit are both tribes that were suppoorted. In addition the flavor is that he experiments on himself and turns into a merfolk, then a Lich and then a Demilich-spirit creature thing.
