Welcome back to Name That Card! For NTC #065, we have a creature that hits the ground and gets in at least one good swing before your opponent can properly respond with a Doom Blade.

Simple enough. The wording might need a spruce, but it gets the job done. More importantly, this card needs a name, and a creature type. What are they?

Just added "on your turn" because it occured to me that if you could consistently blink this card during your opponent's upkeep, then there'd be quite the problem. :S

Grand Abolisher seems better.

Reality Shaker
Creature - Beast

Reality Anchor Creature — Treefolk Psion

@Link. It does. I do think that a large Grand Abolisher with haste is interesting in its own right. But I think if I redid this card, it would have Grand Abolisher's text and this card's stats.

Too late now, though. I don't like to functionally change cards after they've been written if I don't have to. Plus, admittedly, too many Grand Abolishers in Magic might be problematic. Or maybe there's no such thing as 'too many answers to Cancel'?

Huh. This is an interesting answer to "dies to removal". But I also kind of want to see a full cycle with the ability. Because depending on what kind of creature you put it on; it can be a downside as much as an upside.

So I think I want to see this as a whole creature type. This is a Crashing Shroudling. The other colours get to see what "Oh, yeah, no abilities at all on my turn, that's a downside; but hey, I get a big thing for cheap" feels (sans haste). And blue gets to swap in flash for haste; so that it can avoid the downside if it prefers to.

Voting is up! Vote for your favorite card here!

Unfortunately, I had to disqualify Link's choice, since Reality Anchor is already a card name. I wish I caught that earlier. In deference I think I might make whatever name is chosen into a Treefolk Psion.

Haha, oops.

Vitenka wins this week. Since Vitenka didn't give me a creature type, I made this a Treefolk Shapeshifter, so the shroudling can turn into a shrubbery on occasion.

See you all with (((NTC #066))).

Um, I thought my intent was clear with "new creature type" - I meant it to be a "Shroudling". Ah well.

I got the gist of your idea, but obviously wiffed on the literalness of this being a whole new creature type. Treefolk is now the race, while Shroudling is the class. ;)

Fairly effective body:cost ratio with a bad, temporarily Grand Abolisher from the looks of it. How often are those ETBs really gonna be relevant? I would imagine that just most of the time you would cast/activate that stuff you wanted as a response to this which might not even affect you that much. In design terms, spending 6 lines - vast majority of that text for an effect that seems to have relatively little impact or potential feels "wasteful" to me.

It is wasteful. In hindsight, it occurred to me that much of that could have just been conveyed by saying "This creature has hexproof if it entered the battlefield this turn." Much, much cleaner. You don't get to dodge Spontaneous Combustions, etc. But the card doesn't need to do that, either.

This happens in Name That Card on occasion. Sometimes something sounds really good in my head, I put it out there, and then realize my mistake three hours later. By that point, though, it's too late to change things because that's unfair to the contestants. Hindsight can be a B-.

Ah, "hexproof if just entered" combined with haste is quite nice combination and it immediately clears up what you were going for with the design. One of those "cards that apparently don't exist" ideas. Prolly could even be a common with that.

True, there are probably simpler variants, but there's a few interesting possibilities here. "This has hexproof the turn it enters" is probably the most straightforward, but there could also be: * This has hexproof unless it took damage this turn * When this ETB or attacks, it gains protection from spells and abilities UEOT * Creatures you control have hexproof if THIS ETB this turn * ETB with a hexproof counter. Remove a counter from it whenever it deals damage to an opponent. Which might be useful in different sets.
