Welcome back to Name That Card! Here's a spicy little number that can reward one player with a lot of cards, but at one heck of a cost. Let's break this down in a few scenarios:
Scenario 1 - 4 player game:
Player W reveals 3
Player X reveals 3
Player Y reveals 2
Player Z reveals 1
Result: Players W and X draw three cards, but lose life equal to the combined chosen numbers (they lose 9 life.)
Scenario 2 - 2-player game
Player X chooses 7
Player Y chooses 9
Player Y draws nine cards, and loses 16 life. Those cards better do a lot of work!
That cost is steep... but maybe what you really want is for your opponent to take the heat and lose all that life to deny you the cards. But what is this card's name?
In hindsight, even if a card is 'bad', if it's this explosive it must be mythic.
Truth or Dare
Huh. I always have affection for cards like this. It feels odd to see it in magic, though. It's nicely "Nearly symmetrical" but what with differing life totals when you cast it, it's really not. Many players will hate it, as they never know whether they will gain cards, or their opponent will lose life. And whichever happens, it's their fault because a different choice would have resulted in a different outcome. (Although I'd want a FAQ on whether you can cheat horribly as a team by having one of you name a large negative number...)
As for a name... If this were unlimited era, I'd suggest demonic bargain of some kind and call it done. But we shouldn't really do that. So. It's a blind auction, of life for knowledge. "Unseen Promise" maybe? Hmm, not quite. Shrouded Knowledge.
I liked the last card, and this one, but didn't have any suggestions better than the ones people already made. Truth or Dare was a good proposal! :)
At mythic, I think we can go for more "high concept" names. At Any Cost
I wanted to include some words like... outdo, determination, bravado, dedication... "Will to Succeed" isn't quite right... Nope, I've not got anything better than these. I love dude1818's reference to "black will do anything to win", but I can't find a better name.
Dangerous Greed, maybe?
