Oh weird

Good weird or bad weird?

(I guess this isn't really related to the referenced card except that I thought of it while editing that one.)

I think the new mutate technology supports this, but at the same time I'm certain I've worded it incorrectly. I might not even need to use the word mutate at all.

Wow. I love this flavor and mechanic...

I'm not sure what's the point of the second ability, out of curiosity? Sure, it refreshes the arrival effect (which is a highly supported archetype) but does it come back with the underneath cards? Or do they go to the graveyard? I'd assume the latter, but idk

I'd assume it works that way, because it's most similar to how auras and equipment work when their attachee leaves the battlefield. Although, I think auras go to graveyard while equipments stay on the field

Again, i might be wrong, I've not checked the rules for a while.

Edit: assuming mutate supports this, why would you activate the ability anyway?

The second ability pops out all the mutated cards onto the battlefield, iirc.

Now says "merge" instead of "mutate."

It's an interesting way to power up this creature. Putting it in four colors without making it legendary is a little disappointing. I think it was better when it said mutate, because that's a term the game knows, and it's basically what you're doing. Merge is meaningless

I got merge from the rules for mutate, which imply that mutating is a form of merging creatures and that merging could be developed further in the future.

Also, this could be legendary. I wouldn't be upset by that change.

Oh interesting. I hadn't seen that term yet. Was that in the card notes for Ikoria?

My comment about being legendary was mostly that this was nearly unplayable in commander because of the color identity

No, it was in the notes about mutate in the set release, and in the note about the comp rules update, though I didn't read the full comp rules section on it.
