Strangely, it won't help blocking Irresistible Force, since a blocked creature with trample and no blocking creatures can just ship the whole bucket of damage in.

Which is exactly right. The force isn't resisted; nor is the object moved. All the damage happens to the assumption that objects can automatically resist forces :)
