What's the weird wording on the front side meant to prohibit? Wrath of God is a spell. Sacrificing it to Cartel Aristocrat is an ability.
State based effects? If you give this creature -4/-4, it won't transform? Very weird choice.
I wanted to prevent death and cause the creature to transform into the indestructible god. I did not appropriately word the card to do that. What are Multiverse's suggestions: The flavor is that situations that should be fatal to mortals can be shrugged away as the entity reveals themself to be a god.
I'd just say "If ~ would die, instead transform it." Normally you'd need to add "and remove all damage from it" but because the back side has indestructible that's (almost always) not going to be needed.
And yes, that means that if you give it -11/-11 it (transforms and) lives but -12/-12 does really kill it (after it transforms). That's fine, I think.
Changed to Alex's suggestion for death transform trigger
