Wouldn't it be easier to make it work like Soulbond instead of adding in rules for it being attached to a creature while remaining a creature itself? Assuming it does remain as a creature while attached, instead of behaving like Bestow or a Licid...
It remains as a creature.
What's inherently easier about either, though? Adding a new keyword mechanic still involves adding to the comp rules.
Perhaps I should have said "simpler" rather than "easier." It doesn't require working out how attaching a creature to another creature works (And the corner case interactions that would result), and is less confusing. And outside of the small number of cards that refer to attached permanents rather than aura or equipment, it'd be functionally identical anyway.
I see your point, but what's confusing about attachments at base? People understand auras and équipement just fine. That creatures can't currently be attached to things is just arbitrary.
It's mostly logistical. 99% of the time, people tap the aura/equipment along with the creature even though it's incorrect, but that's an acceptable mistake. By making the tapped state of the aura matter, you're just causing players to constantly screw up what they naturally are used to for zero gain
It also makes combat way more confusing when you can hide some of your creatures under other cards
Re: it being confusing, see above where I was confused as to whether or not it was still a creature while it was attached to something. That's the sort of thing I'm talking about (Though what dude said applies as well, of course).
Although I did recall one other instance where this would be different from Soulbond: if you give the relied upon creature protection from blue, this detaches. Oh, and this also keeps Hexproof after the paired creature is gone, while a Soulbond creature wouldn't.
Fair points, dude. I don't personally tap my attachments, so I forget that other people do. People do tend to place attachments mostly under things to which they're attached, so I can see that being an issue as well.
To clarify:
• Symbiotic creatures can attack independently of the creature to which they are attached.
• Symbiotic creatures can't be cast without a target.
• Symbiotic creatures, like auras, go to the graveyard if they're unattached. I've clarified this in the reminder text of the first card.
