Needs to have a cost too. Maybe
?
Like wither, hybrid is a mechanic which is generally either used in a big way in a set, or not used at all. Alara Reborn is about the only exception, and that still had 10 cards (the Bant Sureblade cycle and the Messenger Falcons cycle).
This definitely does need a cost of some kind though. I agree
or
are the best options. Even
is very good.
Personally, I'd find this card more appealing if the casting cost/p/t came down a step, and an activation of
or so was added. I assume that this card, as written, will cause more frowns than smiles. I can imagine someone doing 'the right thing' by blocking with this creature and sacrificing 3 lands, only to watch their opponent drop another 7/7. Whether or not it was the right play, that can be really frustrating. Keeping this in common and letting it happen all the time... even more so.
This card is certainly one of the chief contributors to land sacrifice. But thing is, in-set that means a lot more than in many sets. It brings back Tunnel Skeleton, opens you to risk from Soul Channel and Demon of Armok, and so on.
reduced casting cost by one, added
activation; it's still a good finisher.
This now means you have this and Porcelain Cat both at 3-mana red common first strike. Before there was Tunnel Runners at 2CC, the Cat at 3, and this at 4. Are you planning to just ditch the Cat entirely? Or bump it up to 4 mana to become a Halberdier reprint?
BURN THE CAT.
Uh, yeah. I didn't really realise that.
I admit, I might have advised making this guy a monster. 2/2 first strike for 3cc is already pretty good. Still, this would feel like a strong common without the first strike.
Dammit. I KEEP reading 3cc as

Still, good point, let's make it 1/2
2/2
2/2 -> 1/2
