Oh, that's a good approach. Nice way to capture the building up of familiarity he needs. The previous approach was to have two different cards for the different "levels" of his ability: Regent and Regent, Master Controller.
HOLY CRAP OTHER PEOPLE READ WORM? That took away like 1 month of my life...
I know it's "simultaneously have two different timelines and collapse the worst one", not 'cancel the timeline and try again from an earlier point'. Since he chooses the "best among two choices", it can be made a bit simpler at the cost of some abstraction. Purely riffing, with no thought to the strength of these abilities...
Coil
If you would draw a card, instead draw two cards and exile one of them.

It would also be nice if there was some form of chaos (i.e., an opponent action)

At the point I'm at, he can only try our two timelines at once. The idea here is that it lets you do exactly that. If Coil is still around, he can make another split.
I'd give him exactly this ability except only exiling the target, not himself as well. It's not like he freezes himself in time.
Could perhaps be restricted to "target attacking or blocking creature" if we wanted, though more for flavour than power reasons - I think the card is probably more fun unrestricted.
Mmm, our Grue also ended up white, after a little colour pie discussion of whether a shadow-themed power set could be nonblack. The character does like to intimidate people (hence choosing the name for the reason jmg refers to) but his personality is very much about protecting his group.

See Grue. With power over shadow, it's a bit odd that Grue isn't , but his abilities and personality (at least where I am in the story) certainly aren't.

There are a lot of possible interpretations for Grue. This is one.

I have a bad habit of making my cards too complex. This is no exception.

Regent's abilities are mainly . I'm not all that far through the story, but I wouldn't say that his personality fits those colors. He's . So I don't know how accurately this reflects him. His ability could be as simple as Gideon's Lawkeeper.
Which also goes for "Replace the draw phase with a tutor phase"
How about: Whenever you would draw a card, you may instead wish for a card outside of the game? Although.. hmm, that would be better for Eidolon actually.

It probably should be, but you could just cast another one anyway.
Ah, I assumed the "only once" was a concession to sanity of gameplay, not a typo :-P

ALSO GEEZ, SPOILERS MUCH!
Whatever the implementation, Coil's ability really wants to be am instant rather than something represented on an actual creature.
Now says "once per turn" as I intended; refined some stuff
At the point I'm at, he can only try our two timelines at once. The idea here is that it lets you do exactly that. If Coil is still around, he can make another split.
So what you really want is a second copy of this (or a Copperhorn Scout) plus a repeatable attack trigger, like Mardu Shadowspear.
I think Vitenka's comments above are mistaking this character for Coil.

Hahaha! Highly amusing way to do it. But it doesn't really represent the way he can do the split repeatedly.
My take was Coil. I think the comment over there has no spoilers for beyond where I infer you're up to from the creation of this card.

Thoroughly crazy implementation.
No.
Hm, yeah, I think there are some bugs in permissions for moving in/out of public-access sets. Sorry about that.
Yes, but am I likely to be eaten by him?
