I'm claiming Challeng # 021, and putting it up tomorrow.
Whoops. Witness New and Improved "Two Blaves", now featuring a Casting Cost!
I've been on a tear lately. Making Drakes that don't fly and equipment which I've forgotten to add the only requirement that was needed to make it a valid entry...
I agree that Bonesplitter is slightly overpowered by modern standards. This is a curious card, but quite good.
...Of course, at the moment it has the small drawback that it can't be cast.
I'm not sure, but given the recent run of equipment I'd say you're basically right: I'm not sure bonesplitter falls into the "so overpowered it couldn't be reprinted", but I think it falls into "significantly better than what we now want to be the average baseline, so we're going to go on printing things that are a little worse on average but not strictly worse while avoiding printing something that's directly comparable".
Which of course this fits well: It's a bit worse than bonesplitter, but will be as good as bonesplitter in some situations, and has a small advantage that will be relevant sometimes.
Two Blaves. Not to be confused with True Love.
For Challenge # 020. I'm going out on a limb here, and just assuming that Bonesplitter was overpowered, and that this is a reasonable alternative. It was, really. It was a first pick in draft, in an environment filled with wacky good equipment. Leonin Scimitar was later reprinted as an uncommon, and that almost seemed fair. I also like the "
: Unequip ~." A few more pieces of equipment could serve to run that line.
For those of you confused as to the flavor, you need to watch "A Princess Bride" a few more times.
You sir, gave Isamaru a ball to play with. I declare you preemptive winner of the Isamaru bonus toy award.
Isamaru approves. It isn't very good for multiplayer, but Isamaru never seemed to care about those other players in the game. He just wants to bite the last person who won.
(((Shadow Mantle)))
Thanks. I did consider that. I think it's an interesting question how much people would value the cycling ability at
and
: I think pure cycling is not as valuable as people sometimes make out, but people definitely play things like gitaxian probe.
But I also thought it was prudent to avoid an equip
, just in case. (And I didn't want to clutter up the card by having it replace itself on some other condition.)
Created a rare: Bloodswing Warhammer.
One cheeky approach to Challenge # 020: make an equipment that you can cast+equip turn 2, but you can't use its full potential until later. It's somewhat subverting the challenge, but I did at least give it an ability you can use on a Hound on turn 2.
(And yes, if you pay
and 4 life you can give it +7/+0 on a turn. That's why this is rare.)
Actually, you know what's much nastier to put this on? Nip Gwyllion or Vault Skirge. Ick.
Hahaha! Awesome approach!
Ooh. Heh. Reminds me of Protoss units in Starcraft. I really like that idea actually: Terrans and Zerg can still have units with just P and T, but Protoss get the third value, shield, either functioning like absorb (Lymph Sliver) or in some other way.
Oooo. I think I'd feel happier if this was
cost
equip, because there have been a handful of cantrip artifacts for
(Elsewhere Flask, Prophetic Prism, Ichor Wellspring, Tsabo's Web), but never for
(though there are death-trigger artifacts like Terrarion and Mishra's Bauble).
But yes, I think it's permissible to get a +0/+1 for basically free. Interesting card.
Murderball
For Challenge # 020
Flavourfully, this is a huge giant spiked ball which creatures throw at each other on the battlefield :)
