Duelly noted. I will have to make them up. I've also got a cycle of split cards and or flip cards that contain the five "bad" common creatures (Pearled Unicorn, Sea Hawk, Dripping Dead, Mons Goblin Raiders and Quirion Trailblazer). I put those 5 in the Timeshifted slot in the Core Set, and gave players multiple ways to tutor them from their sideboard. It's kind of funny when Mons Goblin Raiders becomes a 5th pick.
I know it will probably be some time before you get around to split/flips, but I was just planning on sending all this stuff over to MTG Card Maker when I was done and printing it there anyway. Those 5 cards would be such oddballs anyway, that I'm sure people would have a bunch of odd comments without understanding the context.
Technically, the card was fine as printed, but I can see why people would be confused. Added the word "then", so no one thinks the card is worse when you have Hellbent.
The set has a Wisdom vs. Hellbent theme... it's hard to explain why these sort of cards are fun until you draft the set. It gives players something to work for when drafting (since many cards are Wisdom or Hellbent enablers), and acts as a minigame when playing. Cards that do both at the same time are extra usefull (this card is a Wisdom card that Hellbent enables). It's also worth noting that this is an expansion of the core block which had a healthy number of "5 cards or more" cards, so this would be a play on that.
That being said, I understand the poopy face being made when looking at this card. I tried to give this and the blue one (the two colors stuck between Wisdom and Hellbent) simple abilities for their colors. But, maybe Rampant Growth isn't simple enough. From the point of view of "I want my players to jump through these hoops" it works splendidly, but from a player point of view, it's stinko. I'm going to have to think on this one.
Good 1CC cards are hard to come by in Magic. My best guess is that, over the years, Wizards has seen some abusive decks that prey upon strong 1 drops. But the end result of making weak one drops is that they don't matter in limited, where individual card quality trumps the card's relevance in a particular deck.
There's one way to deal with this, and that's to make a large number of good 1CC cards that aren't particularly powerfull on round 1. Then there's the other option... just make the 1cc cards powerful again. Have you seen some of the 1CCs for Magic 2012? The black and the red one is one point of unstoppable damage every turn. I know they want to push bloodthirst, but, wow...
It is a very funky and mind-boggling ability. You should create those tokens as cards with Token rarity in this set; then they'd come up in the boosters if you use the booster link, or you could just print them out when you print the rest of the cards.
Is the Hellbent ability meant to be instead or as well? If instead, say "Instead". If as well, probably say "Then".
I really don't like the "5 or more cards" restriction. Would this be too good if you could always do the discard on ETB? I don't think so.
Hm. Pushing the envelope a little, but this is still acceptable for a single white mana. Clever combination of numbers and ability.
Nice combination of abilities. I don't think anything quite like this has been done before, and yet it's a sensible common design. Very nice.
