As long as you obey the Rule of Five, you should be fine. (ISTR that's what Wizards call it? It's the rule that if four of a cycle sync on one attribute, the fifth should as well; if one of a cycle is different to some of the others, then at least one other in the cycle should also be different again. (1 1 1 1 1) is fine, (1 1 1 2 3) is fine, (1 1 1 1 3) is bad.)
Similar to Ancient Hellkite but with much lower cost.
It's hard to design mythics which are splashy but not flat-out better than any other cards. Even wizards don't seem as good at it as they'd like.
My attempts for this set are very heavily colour-reliant cards, which are clearly splashy if you commit to the colour, but less overwhelming otherwise. Hopefully they CAN go in any deck, but definitely splashier in a pure-red deck.
This is in the red slot for the moment even though it's colourless as it's in red decks where it's powerful, but the flavour wants it to be colorless.
Yeah, I think any land sac effect is probably nice, as it's mostly bonus, but is a good area to explore. I was worried it seems better than older lands.
Surprise, as in, I play this on turn 2 and forget to announce it properly and just say "land", and then on turn eight my opponent gets to 3 life and I sac it, and they say "What? Since when have you had that? I would have blocked!" and feel unfairly done by. Perhaps not a problem if everyone knows it exists, but it was something I thought of. (And partly why I made sure the black and red lands had to keep some mana open to use the effect, whereas blue and white, while surprising if you've forgotten about them, are less final. Not sure if I should sync up the mana costs?)
Oh, good point, I'd forgotten Krosan Verge existed (or never knew). Still not positive, but will leave as-is for now.
Ah, good point. Maybe it should just be one or the other, but I'll try it as hybrid for now.
Good point on protection. I liked the flavour of a temperamental protection effect, but maybe that should go on another card.
Thanks.
I like the flavour of a guard drone which becomes suddenly dangerous when disturbed. Not positive about abilities. Maybe even should be an animated artifact, though would be more wordy.
Thanks. Yeah. I have the trouble that genericising names sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. I'm ok with the flavour, as the opposing creatures always have the choice not to attack/block, and it only hurts people if they ask for it, but I'd be happy with a variant name.
Not sure where the "surprise" concept comes from. It's a good card - like a Piranha Marsh but more so, or like a Barbarian Ring without needing threshold.
Oh yes. I hadn't looked for similar things (wouldn't have been sure what to search for even), but yes, very similar flavour, but different enough I don't mind.
This effect is similar to Krosan Verge, and so probably just about okay. (Also reminiscent of Selesnya Sanctuary and friends: you're getting 2 mana from one land.)
LOL. Thank you! Again I invented it early, loved the flavour, and kept it hanging around because it really common :)
There's definitely overlap between steampunk and superhero. For a moment I felt all proprietary, then decided I'd much rather it found love: please do borrow and adapt!
Yeah, I think this is reasonable. It's a great one-drop, but not so good later on, which is fine in a 1/1 for
.
"
or
" can become "
" if you want... but more effective at reducing wordcount might be making the white ability "protection from the colour of your choice".
Partially indestructible artifact creature. Not positive how to cost.
I love it. In fact, I love it so much I might steal a variant on it for my Clockwork Wings set, if that's okay? :)
Hm, reminiscent of Swooping Talon. Nice set of abilities.
Power level is about right, by comparison with Gorgon Flail. Deathtouch is a bit of a weird flavour for a hero's shield though: the hero doesn't always kill everyone he fights - in fact, he often tries not to. Merciless fights to the death are very much villainous in flavour.
Very french vanilla. Not sure about power level. Supposed to be reminiscent of Captain America shield, but not sure if it works.
Concept of thrown hammer that can hit defending creature or player. Needs to be less wordy.
