Mechanics

The major theme of this set is stack matters. Every color can interact with the stack in some way.

Minor themes and mechanics (tentative):
alternative casting cost (play traps face-down, detonate)
amount of mana paid
split second
can't be countered (blessed)
3 spell types: AEther, Trap, Arcane
AEther are colorless spells
Trap can be played faced down and detonated (like morph) (mainly blue, black and red)
Arcane coalesce is reverse splice (mainly green, white and black)
Morph returns
? all instants and sorceries have subtype or tribal
major tribes: rogue (trap), wizard (arcane), cleric (arcane), warrior (trap), spirit (aether)

Sorcery – Arcane
Infuse from Arcane {2} (As you cast this spell, you may pay {2}. If you do, exile an Arcane card from your graveyard and add that card's effects to this spell.)

Mill a card until you reveal a creature or land card. Put that card onto the field.

Tribal Instant – Cleric
split second (As long as this spell is on the stack, players can't cast spells or activate abilities that aren't mana abilities.)

Put a creature card from a graveyard onto the field under your control. If you control a Cleric, you gain life equal to that creature card's converted mana cost.
 U
Tribal Instant – Spirit
Counter target artifact or enchantment spell. Create two 1/1 colorless Spirit creature tokens.

Sorcery – AEther
Search your library for up to two basic land cards and put them onto the field. Then shuffle your library.
 R
Sorcery – AEther
Put up to two creature cards from your hand onto the field.

On Crossroads Barter:

lol, yeah. Infuse is an interesting twist to splice. One point of sadness is that the keyword mill only works for effects that mill a set number of cards, but cards like Consuming Aberration aren't receiving that template update

On Crossroads Barter:

I wonder what this card was when that 22-may comment was made? Because it's nothing like that now.

On Stupid Green Spell:

Fair enough; I can see it as a mockery.

As a real spell... {x}{g} to fetch a creature with (toughness/power/cmc/in-the-top-cards-of-deck) X or less, then dump counters on it? Still gives you plenty of sneaky cheaty things you can do on non-square critters, while not being quite as obviously horribly broken.

On Blues Clues:

But if you're using tribal, why are you using arcane spells instead of tribal wizard spells?

On Blues Clues:

Um. It's a tribal artifact, not a creature

On Blues Clues:

Needs power toughness, also I'm stealing it for Tesla

On AEther Nexus:

Gatherer is only changed when a set is released.

On AEther Nexus:

@amuseum I see...

Well there's still all these.

On AEther Nexus:

Probably should be something like "You may pay 1 life rather than {1} when casting colorless spells. Spend only 1 life per spell cast this way." Or something. I don't think it's quite right as is.

"Cards with the Ae ligature will now just be an ā€œAā€ and an ā€œeā€. Hallelujah!"
