Recent updates to Clockwork Wings: (Generated at 2025-04-30 20:12:05)
Swapped slot with UB07 Striechfiss Infiltration. This effect is perfectly suitable for common (even though this card is bad).
promote to uncommon as discussed
down to common
Tough. It's a bit too good for common, and black common needs to be reined in a bit, and there are already two commons with deathtrap 2, which both feel "more common" than this. Exchange with the bad card CB10 Midnight Scavenging, previously UB07.
I might change this to "
: Regenerate connected artifact." There aren't any other connectors with
abilities, but several care about whether they can successfully become tapped, which is close enough.
Playtest it first and see whether people bother using it.
turn into an artifact creature, fit into slot UA09 and activate
Increased the size of a few uncommon artifact creatures.
3-mana 1/3 -> 4-mana 2/4
3-mana 2/2 -> 5-mana 3/3
In the list of details pages above, there's one called "Proxies for printing". I update that page each time I want to do a new playtest, with the decks I want to try, then print them out using the "Printable" link at top-right. They come out 9 to an A4 sheet; I cut them up and slide them inside card sleeves of an already-sleeved deck. Currently all 5 of my sleeved decks are being used as Clockwork Wings proxy decks rather than whatever they were actually assembled as :)
Then I get friends over to my house and recruit them to playtest the decks against each other.
Sometime this summer we're going to have a draft. I think the way I'll do that is print out 3-4 of each common, 2 of each uncommon and 1 of each rare and mythic, then jumble them up into boosters, just of paper. Once people are done drafting they can slide the paper drafted cards into a 40-card deck that's in cardsleeves.
I've also used PyDraft before. Multiverse's plain text spoiler export is deliberately designed to be easy to import into PyDraft.
Hm. It wasn't intended that way. I think it used to vary, and then I noticed in most cases 2 seemed to be the right number, and decided it'd be easier for players to understand if it was standardised like that. In the same way as the Deathtrap numbers are all either 2 or 5.
I certainly could see creating a card with Hierarchy 3 or 5 or something.
(Oops, thanks - links fixed.)
I'm not sure I'd say it's ironic, but it's very much meant to suggest that the nobles need lesser beings around in order to be any use. It's the same flavour as Insecure Baronet.
So, what methods do you use to playtest your cards?
So, all Hierarchy cards are Hierarchy 2? Is the only point of the number so that it can be changed in later sets?
I think you formatted your links as though they were real magic cards instead of cards in your set. Also, is the flavor of Hierarchy purposefully ironic? It's like the creatures need the confidence inspired by weaker creatures to function. I like it.
Hmm. No, generally the Nobles with Hierarchy don't do anything with those creatures. Lord of the Demesne does, but the basic implementations like Nouveau Riche and Self-Important Courtesan don't. I think the play is still interesting just needing someone around to feel superior to (and I think the common cards are best kept simple like that), but I'd certainly be up for considering possibilities. What kind of thing did you have in mind?
Oh. I like Hierarchy. For all of Wizard's talk of needing to support expensive splashy spells, sometimes they forget to love their little dudes as well. I haven't really looked through your set, Alex, but please tell me that creatures with Hierarchy commonly do something with those smaller creatures. While the mechanic looks interesting, it feels like your passing on flavor if Nobles and Peasants aren't interacting...
add art, and update gender of the name appropriately
Found this awesome piece of art that I think suits this card. But now I need a name suitable for it. Any suggestions?
give it art, remove name
