Haha, awesome :) Card selection for 3 turns, and then it turns into a beefy insect! And both origin cards are clearly visible. Good one!
Random Generator gave me Lim-Dûl's Vault and Cocoon. The result: Words. Damn it Cocoon, I already dealt with your madness before. I didn't need another Cocoon challenge.
Well, anyway, I needed an artifact, and these two cards smashed together looked pretty artifact-y. I suppose I could have fought harder to get less words in there... but I like what the card is doing.
Hm, I just realised this can't actually deal any combat damage until you've spent a turn charging it up. That's quite a drawback. Could this be 4 mana to cast rather than 5?
Oh, and my 'can't' problem was caused by not finding the words 'if you can not' in all of Gatherer. Evidently, Wizards always contracts 'can not' to 'can't' (which I should have been searching for) but not 'do not' to 'don't'. Weird.
Switched flavor to Insect, which works a little better with artifacts. I tried to Google Image "Robot Spawn" to get an idea of what that might look like, but mostly, I got Tod MacFarlane's Spawn dressed up as a robot. :S
Mmm. I was trying to pull flavor from the Elderazi Regress over the Hydra to mix things up. The unfortunate problem: Add technology to Elderazi spawns, and suddenly you have Phyrexia.
Nah, I think "If you can't" is fine. It's in the current reminder text for Fading, and it's used on things like Archdemon of Greed and Eldrazi Monument too.
This card looks fine (possibly too similar to Clockwork Vorrac, but that's fine). The only strange bit is the name and creature type... doesn't sound much like an artifact creature to me.
Also, I'm pretty sure the usual Magic editing guide, would force me to say "do not" instead of "can not". I just don't want new players thinking they have an option with this guy. Might need some mild reminder text, instead.
Wowee. Exciting. Nice mashup. Could perhaps even be mythic if you wanted, though rare is fine as well.
