For Challenge # 004; see also Elena Moreau. A variation on Bioplasm that has a slight black feel to it what with its second triggered ability
I don't really see the Bioplasm in it. It's more similar to Scavenger Drake. It still feels very green, though.
Bioplasm was the inspiration creature. The original version gave +X/+X where X was the creature's CMC but that was too strong for an uncommon.
Then I made it reveal - if a creature put a +1/+1 counter on.
When I got there, I decided that Graft was the logical way to go and then I was inspired to change the counter gaining trigger.
So no, now it looks nothing like the Bioplasm which is why I changed its name.
Funny how "when creatures die" just doesn't trigger a "this card feels kind of black" response from me. I mean, I get it, and it probably should, but Wizards has used "when creatures die" so often that its become a part of every color. Maybe that's good... since it's a subtle detective story way of saying "look at the stuff she's been toying with. Of course she was evil." while still surprising the reader.
It's a pity Magic doesn't use +1/-1 counters, otherwise I'd suggest it for this card for a "doesn't quite fit Green, but okay..." feel.
Nice combination of Graft with the Algae Gharial ability. It didn't seem black at all to me when I first read it, but having read the discussion I can see how it's a little hint.
