Has this been done?
Goblin Cadets is the bad half of it. Charisma and Tolarian Entrancer are similar to the good half. Nice idea to combine the two - it does indeed seem natural, but I don't think it's been done.
I was most inspired by Bronze Tablet. Um, not that one. Similar one that just changes control for
.
I like the card, but it feels like it should be a 2/2 instead of a 1/3 Defender. If you didn't plan on attacking on the ground, your opponent gained no advantage from trading with this card. Meanwhile, both you and your opponent can attack freely with a 2/2. If the point of the card is to just grief your opponent, the 1/3 defender is better, but if you want both players to interact with each other, I think the 2/2 does the job better.
Not sure what to say except "I hear what you are saying, and disagree".
I wanted a bit of asymmetry in it, you still have to work a bit to get it. I also didn't want it swapping when it is attacking.
It probably is undercosted, since the symmetry is so breakable (even leaving aside 'creature blocks everything' effects)
Really nice card. I think the "remove them from combat" line is superfluous (control changes on a creature already removes that creature from combat).
I'll make it reminder text then. It's not obvious to me.
Looking for the artifact you're talking about, I'm guessing it was Gauntlets of Chaos? Could also be Avarice Totem.
Avarice Totem, that's it. (Gauntlets aren't reciprocal)
Oh, I definitely wasn't suggesting you should be swapping when attacking. The charm of this card is in the fact that it only swaps when blocking. I just feel like you should give your opponent something they can use after you swap.
On a separate side note, assuming you keep this a Defender, I would suggest making it 0 power. Since, if it can only block, and when it blocks it swaps sides, the 1 Power will only confuse people into thinking it will somehow deal damage. Or, you could go nuts and give this 6 power or something, for similar reasons.
Good point about the power. I still think giving them a blocker which they can then exchange for your best attacker is a reasonable exchange. Compared to other 'just plain steal it' combat tricks, and this one they can see coming. It's breakable (all my attackers fly!) and re-un-breakable (so I give this wall I stole flying too...) and so forth.
