Too pushed?
Only bloodthirst 1? And what's up with the stats? This guy should easily be 10/10
Stats don't always represent real size, or a Krosan Cloudscraper would be bigger than two of three eldrazi titans. 10/10s tend to be either format-warping or unplayable, so I went with spmething that seems like a good finisher for a Jund or Mardu aggro/midrange deck.
Still. 1 toughness is a little weak. Yes, it has menace, but if it actually is blocked by two creatures, then it's going to be dead. That's not exactly what I would expect from the Balrog of Moria.
I don't like bloodthirst and haste on the same card. It's anti-synergistic and confusing.
Glamdring: Yes, but they need three creatures to do that- you can force them to sacrifice one when it attacks, so to block it at all, they need two flyers and another creature, which is hard.
Dude1818: One one hand, yes, it is. However, the two-colored legends in this set have a theme of choices, and this adds to that: do you want a big balrog, or a fast balrog? (or a Goblin Fireslinger and a big fast balrog)
Buffed a little to avoid dying to two Spirit tokens and sac fodder if he's bloodthirsty. (although, come to think of it, spirits are rather lacking in blood, so he probably wouldn't bother anyway)
However, this might be ridiculous now: I'd say it's slightly better than Stormbreath Dragon at least. It may only be a 3/2 to 4/3, but it effectively has menace-and-a-half or the ability to attack for 5-6 instead of 3-4.
Okay. That's better. There was no way a single Balrog ever had one toughness. I mean, what if the opponent has a fight spell? You could have taken this guy out with a single 1/1 soldier. Major mechanical disparity there. Now just remember, make sure Gothmog is at least 15/15. ;)
The Silmarillion set won't come for a while, but if it happens, he'll probably be around 9/9, with a high cost that can be avoided or at least mitigated by sacrificing creatures (a-la-Demon of Death's Gate.)
Unless you mean Gothmog the orc? He'll be in a future LotR block as well. For now, when I finish this set, I have plans for an Innistrad-themed commander product, and then likely a Norse block.
No, I meant Gothmog the Balrog King. No way an orc could ever be 15/15. Now, regarding Ancalagon...anything less than a 30/30 will be absolutely unacceptable :p
