It's been a while since I've designed a mono-white planeswalker.
Samoset wears a blindfold to keep his judgments at bay. Samoset actually planeswalked to one of the many unexplored areas of Quinnesheen. The portal crisis happened when he got there and now he's putting in all his efforts to keep community structured and safe.
I wanted Samoset's theme to be community, a more inclusive one than just Ajani's cat tokens. Samoset doesn't make tokens and instead works to protect those around him. I know protection is gone from standard use, but that change occurred after Samoset's design. I suppose it will make me include some other protection cards in the set though, so that the ability isn't too strange.
If he planeswalked to an unexplored area, why is there community?
He's helping build the community among people struggling to survive in the wilds. Quinnesheen is a large plane. Only 20% of the plane has really been recorded or acknowledged since historic times. Samoset planeswalks into a forest basically and finds people that just got there themselves.
Hm, indestructible already covers most of the reasons you'd want to "have protection from creatures". So, you could either leave the protection clause out (brevity is great!), or change it to "can't be blocked by creatures". That doesn't completely cover every situation that Protection does, but it covers 90% or more of the ones that will actually come up in a normal game.
Protection always was a bit too many things to keep track of, anyways. (I had to mentally run through the DEBT mnemonic to figure out whether indestructible+unblockable covered all situations.)
I thought about using "Exile X non-land permanents, where X is the number of the creatures you control" as the ultimate, and while I liked that idea I don't think it really matched Samoset. I ended up choosing mass token production as an ultimate.
