Reminds me of Guile.
If this is a Sphinx, it probably ought to fly.
Doesn't let you re-target that spell, though?
And it's imprisoned; that's presumably why it can't fly.
But it can attack?
Clearly it's not THAT heavy a prison. (And it can't attack very well)
Agree with not being able to attack and the art will make the no flying make sense, I do not want it to be much of a threat on its own because stealing spells so easily is pretty nasty.
Well, it's "All of my counterspells are actually Confiscate"
If it let you change targets too, then maybe it's sufficiently nasty.
Oh, and I think there's some potential horrible nastiness on "I don't pay the mana cost, oops, the spell is countered, ooops instead of it being countered I control it" but the rule lawyers will chime in on how to fix that, if it really is there.
Vitenka, you can't just not pay a spells mana cost to counter it. It just goes back to your hand.
More like "all my counterspells are actually Desertion". But again, Guile did that already. (You may also like to note that Guile had basically this ability and also an ability that made it fairly hard to block.)
And yeah, if you decline to pay a spell's cost the game reverses everything, and nothing triggers off it. The only problems with that reversal occur if you've moved cards into or out of a library as part of paying some of the card's costs, such as sacrificing a Darksteel Colossus to a Death Bomb without any legal targets, or popping a Chromatic Sphere halfway through casting something, or suchlike.
Your right I forgot about how amazing guile actually is. Still the ability would be mythic in this era. I will add some oomph to the card however.
This ability actually looks pretty bad. It makes it so you can't counter stuff like Wrath of God, because gaining control of that doesn't really help.
Good point, but I'd take that not to be "this ability is bad" but "this ability should be written with a 'may'".
I agree with adding may.
