The predominately {w/r} Elrin have spent the last thousand years enslaving the rest of the plane of Kherna. Originally they were raised as the generals during the elemental wars but thanks to their vanity and shear mana manipulation power they have decided that only they should remain on the surface realm. Other races and any dissenters are imprisoned under ground. They are used to mine ores to build the Elrin's beautiful cities and to continue the war against the elementals surging toward the surface from the core. The Elrin have twin planeswalkers that they use to acquire slaves from other planes as well. Kek and Ser learned of their spark during the war and afterwards they collect prisoners from other planes to further the Elrin's ambitions. The prisons are never full thanks to the elementals. The plane itself was originally created by an old walker to imprison the elementals. They come from a dark fiery hell of a plane and will destroy everything in their path to return. With the old walkers gone or weakened the prison faltered and triggered the war that caused all of this.

Ujared the Free, a man outside of time was taken from a distant plane as a child and grew up in the prison. Unlike many of the prisoners he has a knack for blue mana. Blue is mostly reserved for the Lost, spirits who travel the underground. most believe they are things that have been slain by the elementals. They cannot escape this existence and so are forced to traverse this one. They simply pass through almost any obstacle short of pure mana itself. Ujared can speak to these beings, a gift he believes is natural in one from his plane. Using them as spies and messengers as well as learning they're tricks he has gathered a rebellion to once and for all free the imprisonment and face the Warden and those above.

Important Races and Characters

Elrin

The overlords of Kherna, they mainly reside on the surface in a life of luxury. With slaves handling the bulk of the work they create great works of art and architecture. The surface of the plane is said to be one of the most beautiful in existence. With great glass lakes and green fields, the Elrin's glass structures which are made mostly of pure mana gleam under the twin suns. They appear as tall thin creatures. Their heads unmarred with only a chitinous mouth splitting the front. The skin of which is white to a near opalescence. They fly across the surface with thin wings that look to be made of layered scales. It is said that a Phyrexian named Elesh Norn may have based herself off of the twins appearances. Within the culture is the strong belief that they are the single greatest creation in existence and all other creations must either serve them or be obliterated.

Humans

Humans are natural to Kherna but were not as widespread as other places until they allied with the Elrin. Most of humanity is a part of the Elrin Empire though a few have rebelled and been imprisoned in the underground. Over the past centuries humans have become one of the races that forms the Under Guard. They keep those sealed in the underground from escaping along with the Lerga and any others who might betray their own kind.

Lerga

The Lerga are a lizard like race that look like spiky geckos. They have been under the Elrin's perfect thumbs since before the Elemental Wars. They are quite ingenious creatures and enjoy constructing buildings and tunnels. The underground was originally their home before the Elrin ordered them to transform it into a prison. Rumor has it that there are still wild tribes deep in the underground that were never entranced by the Elrin. Most Lerga see the Elrin as gods on Kherna and will follow their every whim even into death. It was the Lerga that devised a way to slay or imprison every dragon on Kherna.

Drucana

The "Lost" or those who died are supposedly the drifting spirits of those slain by the core elementals. They cannot be effected by anything short of pure mana. They appear as blue wisps that light the caves as they float through them. Deep within the underground is a lake that is lit by the light of thousands of Drucana and no one knows why. The Elrin have methods of removing them but often they are captured and used to light the surface palaces in cages of mana imbued metal. Ujared knows how to communicate with the Drucana and has learned to move through the prison in a similar way as them.

Ujared, the Free

Ujared is from another plane. It is said his mother was brought to the prison by the twins over 100 years ago. When she gave birth the Drucana swarmed the medical ward. She died shortly after. Ujared was placed in the care of an old man who was originally from Urborg. As he grew up hearing tales of other planes he grew determined to return to his home plane. The Drucana had the power to phase through this world so he wondered if they couldn't teach him to planeswalk. He disappeared shortly after the old man's death only to reappear years later as the leader of the rebels.

Velimous, Rebel Elrin

He sees what happens in the prisons and unlike the rest of his race he cannot ignore it. He fights from the outside to free the prisoners and attempts to find a way to help them leave this plane.

The Rebels

The rebellion is a recent development brought up by Ujared. It is mainly built out of beings from other planes. Several races and cultures hide deep within the underground and plan ambush attacks on Elrin patrols and Under Guards. Slowly they are clearing the depths of both Elrin and Elementals. They wear armor that looks like the stone itself but covered with blue sigils that come alight with the power of the Drucana.

The Twins

Kek & Ser discovered their unusual abilities during the Elemental War. Being twins apparently had split there spark between them and so they could only use their abilities when together. The spark alighted when an elemental attempted to obliterate the entire legion they were leading. They planeswalked away leaving the legion to the flames. With practice they realized that using their odd split spark they could entrap others in a pocket dimension between them. This allowed them to transport others across planes. Being loyal Elrin they immediately turned their abilities to the good of the Empire.

The Wardens

The Elrin appointed 3 Wardens to the underground. As they would not leave the prison in the hands of any lesser species. They run the day to day routine of the prison and also often deal out special punishments. Being forced to exist underground has twisted them even further and driven them to do far worse then their surface brethren. Mythkas the Shrike He was an accomplished commander during the war and continues to lead his troops in the underground. He commands the guards with an iron fist and a steel sword.

Vesper The simply named Vesper runs the torture and medical facilities in the underground, in that order. He takes great pleasure in dissecting creatures from other planes and even his own kind. He would probably be the greatest physician in the multiverse if he were not so corrupted.

Lord Mirion The foremost Warden who commands everything in the prison. He has sworn to crush the rebels and if he had his way he would simply collapse the prison on the elementals and everyone inside. His viscousness is only matched by his loyalty to the rules and to the Empire, he follows his Emperor's orders to a T and will not allow the prison to become chaotic.

The Core Elementals

Also known as the Fiery End they are a group of powerful elementals imprisoned in the core of the plane. An old walker created Kherna specifically to bind the elementals. The mining of the Lerga and Elrin weakened the seal and caused the first Elemental War. You can still see the old runes that formed the seal in the tunnels in the underground, some of them still have mana in them and some believe they are the true source of the Drucana and that the Drucana are actually some form of warning system for the old walker. Many prisoners pray to the runes hoping that the planes creator will return to wipe away the Elrin and the elementals.

Places

The Surface

The surface of the plane is mainly water. It is believed that this is a last resort to slow the elementals before they burn into another plane. Small islands cover its surface. Some are trees growing together to form the land others are places where an elemental was slain and its body cooled into an island. The Elrin capitol is in fact built upon the corpse of a massive elemental. large spider-like glass creatures called Muren skate across the surface. The Elrin use these as pack animals when they cannot transport goods by air.

Elrania

The capitol of the Elrin. Here sits the great Empreror Senstauris. He has little power over the goings on of the surface but his word is law underground. The city is built out of polished obsidian and gems mined by slaves in the underground. Dying elementals are often used to expand the island to make room for more beautiful structures. To the enslaved it is known as the shadow city for when the light hits it, it goes right through and creates a hollow silhouette appearance. Almost a shadow in the sun.

Grim Maw

The Elrin did not want the Lerga to deface any of the existing land on Kherna, so the Lerga devised a way to split the ocean in a great whirl pool. This entrance leads down into the underground and is the only one known to the Elrin. In emergencies the entire underground can be flooded to halt the elementals. A squad of Elrin defend this entrance from large sea beasts that were impossible to imprison underground.

The Core

Long ago an elder Planeswalker trapped something and formed Kherna to seal it away. The undergrowth was formed around it to keep it away from the surface. Whatever is in the Core sends out waves of elementals to attempt to break its captivity. The Elrin are both terrified of and mystified by its powers and scheme to take it for its own.

The Undergrowth

The Undergrowth was formed out of a giant fungus that was buried around the core. Its entire purpose is to keep the core elementals from reaching the surface. It completely ignores both Elrin and Prisoners. The Elrin are having the Prisoners cut away at the Undergrowth to mine deeper and to learn the secrets of the core.
