For what it's worth, I know Slith Predator wasn't powerful in Mirrodin, and isn't powerful now, but I loved playing with him and Hystrodon and a deck full of 12x Giant Growth effects (including 6 that scryed or cantriped). My opponents often couldn't believe my 'luck' when I dropped Growth after Growth effect on the table, saving my dude, dealing damage and making my guy bigger, or drawing yet another (Giant Growth) card. I never got a "I don't want to play against that deck anymore", but I did see quite a bit of squirming.

Though, I guess it's not just me. I just looked him up on Gatherer. Slith Predator has 3.76 stars, which shows he's still a viable and playable choice.

This is basically Slith Predator and Whirling Dervish (which was the original inspiration for the card) mashed together :)

2013-08-16 15:18:49: Camruth edited Hamilah, Dervish Queen:

changed the counters from going on in the end step a-la Whirling Dervish to as soon as the damage is dealt a-la Slith Predator
