Created for (((Challenge # 059))). Token swarms and life loss still work.

Could alternatively be "Whenever a creature an opponent control attacks you, cast [etc]. If you can't, you lose the game." That works better with card-drawing spells and doesn't protect against burn.

Oooh, that is an interesting one. Reminiscent of Lich in a way.

Yeah. I considered giving it the Lich / Nefarious Lich clause of "If you would gain life, instead draw that many cards", but I don't think it really needs it.

Well, casting one card per item of damage rather than discarding one per point is probably enough improvement.

Amusingly; you can also still lose by dealing damage to yourself.

Wow, that's awesome. That's going to be really fun.

I'm not sure how workable it is: I imagine the best deck would be 1/3 islands, 2/3 card draw spells, and 4 of this..? :)
