I made this a Kamigawa card mainly because the name was cooler(and shorter) than "Lightning Strike Swordsman".
The Swift Strike mechanic is an idea I have toyed around with in the past but one that is likely not feasible as it makes combat way too complicated what with having 3 separate damage steps. I posted it because I didn't want to lose the idea.

Eh, that step already exists: "When this is blocked, ~ deals 1 damage to..." exists on plenty of cards. Kinda long winded, and I do like the idea of templating it, though.

And the Laccolith Grunt mechanic has been nicknamed "firster strike" too.

technically the step does exist but currently it isn't for combat damage which was what I was saying as you would now have the "when blocked" non combat damage step then 3 combat damage steps.
