Welcome back to Name That Card! Today we have a curious Shatter variant designed to punish players who play with indestructible artifacts. But what is the card's name?

Oh, and yes. Something, something, Bazaar Trader. That guy gets around. Also if you get lucky and your opponent controls an artifact creature, combos with cards like Sheltering Light.

Reckless Overclock

Reasons this is a good name:

  1. Reckless is very much a {r} word
  2. I like the phrase 'overclock', it sounds awesome
  3. This applies to artifacts well, because overclocking smth has a good chance to damage it
  4. Overclock can also be seen as a reference to the fact that this card puts a player on 'a four-turn clock'. This was why I chose 'overclock' instead of 'overheating' even though the latter is more distinctly {r}

I will also submit Reckless Overheating as an option.

Froggy has a good lead here. My best idea is a variant of that Superheat

Yeah, it's an interesting design, I think I like it. It means indestructible on artifacts still matters a lot, but the removal isn't completely dead.

I wonder if there's a simpler way of templating it so you don't have to remember until end of turn. Or alternatively, to include reanimation effects (which I think this isn't effective against?)

It occurred to me after Froggy's post that I could have just written this:

"Destroy target artifact. If that artifact is indestructible, it deals 5 damage to its controller."

There are some corner cases where this is a worse ability (regeneration being the obvious choice) but I doubt there are many ways to keep a 'destroyed' artifact on the battlefield printed in the past five years.

But since Froggy already submitted, and that's technically a functional change (because timing) I figured I'd wait until the contest was over then quietly change it. But don't tell anyone that I'm going to do that. ;)
