Sort of the indirect vs direct approach in the same card. Seems like it might be a little pushed for a common though.
This is common creature destruction at affordable prices. It feels like nowadays the cheapest permissible cost to "destroy target creature" is "Concede the game". But it probably is both too cheap and too common.
Wow. This is pretty nuts. Ignoring the whole part of it being optionally a creature (which makes it a LOT stronger) this is crazy strong. Annihilate would be the standard for this - so pretty much Murder + for cantrip, which is the commonly known pattern. You also have to remember that cycling and abilities in general are harder to counter than spells. WotC also has a habit of overcosting common removal these days, so I would expect the cycling here cost like or so if it were previewed in a standard set as a common. It would still obviously be red-flagged.
Red flagging was only for complexity, I thought. There's nothing complex about this card; it's very straightforward. I think the cycling cost would be fine at , like Deadly Visit.
Annihilate is the closer standard/parallel though. I'll up the cycling to for the moment, but it might still be pushed as a common. Might be doable as an uncommon, commensurate with Annihilate.
I don't see this as a problematic card at all as an uncommon now.
Changed rarity to uncommon.
@dude1818:
As a common, this would get a red-flag for generating card advantage. See this primer for the quick checklist.
Agreed, it's the card advantage from drawing pasted on top that pushes it for common.
This seems to be fine to me now, as an uncommon. If people feel it's still too pushed because Annihilate has a qualifier of "nonblack", I might consider adding the qualifier "destroy target untapped creature", which jibes with the fact that Asphyxiate is actually a mainstay reprint over in the main Pyrulea set.
Changed cycling cost from 3BB to 4BB.
I don't have any input as to power level of this card. I'll let other people figure that out. I just wanted to point out that Asphyxiate would almost be as strong as Murder if it was an instant. So I'm not sure that adding "untapped creature" as a restriction really does much here.
Yea, it doesn't. At this point I'm going by Annihilate as the closest parallel for the cycling ability, but removing any restriction at all and I upping the cost by (1). Otherwise, the power level without cycling is actually a touch weak probably.
