A more straight forward rendition of what I was trying to do with Surging Elemental. Not sure if it's safe to bring it up to 3/3 with haste.
you can add () after a mechanics name to suppress reminder text.
I agree that this is cleaner without discovery - it's definitely an overused mechanic in the original set's cards - forced onto cards that were fine without it.
It's questionable whether the front side should have haste, but a 3/3 with (basically) vigilance and haste for three seems a lot - and that doesn't even include the ability to return transformed.
I think 2/2 with haste vs. 3/3 without haste (on the front face) is about on the spot for this.
Yes it seems a fair tradeoff.
