Ooh... Staying Power for damage is pretty cool. You could only really use that one one rare or mythic spell (and it would help if the spell self-exiled), but I like how it's both better and worse than -1/-1 counters.
While the selkie's skin myth isn't a part of any fairy tale I can think of, it easily could be... and probably is somewhere. A little flavor text, and some appropriate art, and no one would question it.
original art is best. how do they camouflage when they're glowing?
I think an infinitely sharp blade like the Subtle Knife would have the "damage can't be prevented" clause. Maybe even Staying Power for damage it deals.
I feel like the Subtle Knife would be "Whenever equipped creature attacks, you may planeswalk."
I'm sorry, I hadn't expected this to be confusing :(
I think lots of faerie tales have a bad guy who can only be killed with some special weapon. This is supposed to be one of those weapons, not a reference to any particular one.
In this case, the special property of the knife is that it can only be used once, which is something I've read occasionally. (Maybe it would be simpler if it just gave deathtouch?)
The Subtle Knife?
I made The Sword in the Stone.
For Challenge # 079. Hopefully it qualifies. It's an artifact sometimes!
I'm not going to lie. I don't get it.
Glass Knife
For Challenge # 079
Maybe it should give a permanent boost and the sacrifice should only be for the narrow ability "damage can't be prevented". But I like the flavour of the interplay that a glass knife it doesn't do anything most of the time, but still shapes the story around the hero until it's finally used.
Eh, Lorwyn was already explictly based on fairytales so I think it's fine.
In case others, like me, fail to recognize the art or name right away (I have limited familiarity with older cards), it's based off Shanodin Dryads
I'd add the reminder text (It loses all abilities and gains "
: Add
to your mana pool."). The card is very cool, but not a lot of people will get how.
Also, replacement effects can't target. It's way more normal and cool, without being overpowered, if it's just "Whenever CARDNAME deals combat damage to a player". (If you do want a replacement, it's common to have the damage prevented although it will rarely matter.)
