Practical Advantage
For Challenge # 163. Originally, I was aiming for 20 with this card. But it occurred to me that if you wanted an Infest and you're deck had 4x Infest in it, then you had a reasonably good chance of getting what you wanted (presuming we magically don't know what you've drawn in this game so far.) When you're looking at 15 cards and digging for one of your 4x, your chances are exactly 50-50. That's more in the spirit of what I was going for.
It's possible that this isn't a mono-blue ability. One for the council of colors I suppose. I don't think anyone would question it if it looked the top 5 cards and chose one, though. More a matter of degree.
Anyhow, the hybrid cost let me keep this card restrictive, while still giving it flexibility into two mono-colored decks and Dimir. I figured that was important, since 'cheating' Diabolic Tutor shouldn't be easy.
Hey, my opponent cast this card. Now I have to check all these cards to see if they're correct. Can I hedbutt them for timewasting please? If not, I'ma just gonna scoop once someone hits 6 mana, k?
I also considered "if their combined power, toughness, and CMC is 666 or more" to get 666 itself onto the card, but (a) it was less on theme and (b) this card will attract casual players and you're not supposed to satisfy it in one shot with gleemax or infinity elemental :)
Number of the Beast for 66

Another "build around me, no really" like battle of wits :)
The condition is a bit clunky, can you think of any way of improving it so it needs a dedicated deck but isn't too impossible and is easy to understand.
I'm not great at templating, but it seemed appropriate to me. I don't think the ability's been used before so there may not be a single best answer, but that seemed like a good choice.
Honestly, I don't even know if the current wording is sensible. I just thought it seemed silly to write out all the possible combinations.
Oh nice. In fact, the two-colour thing stands out by itself, I wonder about a simpler card, say a permanent with an ability like "3: create a 2/2 elemental creature in a two-colour combination that's not already represented". Uh, except reworded to mention the ten combinations, oops.
Oh huh, yes, that's pretty interesting.
Yeah :) I wasn't sure how much effort to put into balancing the effects. It did occur to me that the red ability made the black ability more usable :)

Woo. Lots of stuff.
I love how destroying 42 creatures sounds bonkers until you realize that the time when it's applicable will probably mean it's also useless.
I made Taravangian's Blessing, Coming of the Great One, and Dectet's Boon.
I'm done for now, I promise.

Haha. Cute.
I mean... Black players could definitely derive a sadistic glee out of this.
You could go a bit more meta.
: Add that much colourless mana to your mana pool.
(How much? That's the question. What's the question? We don't know, but we know the answer...)
Prethinking Spirals
And Computer the Size of a Planet for 42.
See Challenge # 163.
OK, I did the number :)
Except "Add
" isn't right any more, it needs to be "Add

" How else do you write that? "Add forty-two colorless mana to your mana pool"?
To get the full Hitchhiker's Guide 6x8=42 reference, I wasn't sure if the costs should be 7W or 8W or something else.

I'm tempted to cheat. Make a card named "Twenty" and use text like "Tap twenty to..." (22...)
Meh. What can need such a huge number.
Well, I thought - "Hey, random card for inspiration/mash". And got Braingeyser.
"Draw 22 cards" is just... yow. If you cast it, you're gonna win the turn after. (Not least because you have, like, 22 mana and at least one good card).
Sure, some games casting it would deck yourself. So, uh, don't cast it then?
But what if you were FORCED to cast it. Now that would be amusing. And also give a way to make it cheap enough to maybe make viable.
Something like suspend? But while forcing opponents to rush to finish you off is interesting; most decks aren't mill decks. So also make them able to mill you?
This kinda sounds like an enchantment now; but I do want you to be unable to go back on it (because Naturalise to save yourself, is meh). So.. an emblem? Wait; how does saga tech actually work... Drat, those are enchantments. Do they HAVE to be?
Meh. Gonna fall back on suspend. And words words words. Use 'mill' and assume they come up with a proper (short) term for it.
This card is mythic all the way.
Ignore me being stupid. And suggest no piles of "whoops"
Or half a pile of twenty-four :)
Or if you're really playing dredge, one pile of twelve.
Wait, does that count as "separating them into equal piles"?
Right. If you're playing dredge and just cast an 8 cost spell, then three piles of four are for you. :D
Oh, nice use of 21!
I was expected a big bonus for getting to 21, does it need a benefit in addition to looting?
