Exploding Borders ain't bad. Kills an opponent 4 castings later, which is 2 turns assuming you got those 7 mana from 7 lands.
Path to Exile is hilarious, but saved by being a "may", so the opponent just chooses not to collect their consolation prize.
The most broken thing I could think of was Crop Rotation in a sort of underwear gnomes plot. But you would need some third combo piece to break this open, and Crop Rotation is a broken card before the Priordial stepped on the table.
Normally I hang back for a little while, but this challenge does not lack for design space.
Baseline import: Stoutheart Stag
Created monster: Stoutheart Hydra.
See Challenge # 131. I realized that we, as a group, will be tempted to make a bunch of rares and mythics, and I wanted to see some common monstrosities, too. Fungusaur-lite isn't often done at common, but I'm not sure why. Whether or not this becomes huge is mostly dependent on your opponent's decisions.
See Challenge # 131.
Hey! It's a perfectly fair Mother of Runes! Go figure.
Korven may have gotten more of a challenge than he bargained for...
Oh, that's funny. I've seen similar design before, but never in the form of a "Bear Ooze".
Oh yes, that does feel unusual but really appropriate for green!
It's got to be broken with SOMETHING. Well, as broken as a seven-cost card ever can be. But I'm not sure what. It could be snazzy with Genesis Wave, but even genesis-wave-for-four every turn isn't that strong by the time you can afford to cast it. I was trying to think of some sort of flicker effect, but nothing seemed overpowered.
Path to Exile of course, would be pretty overpowering :) But I assume that's not supposed to count (and even if it did, it wouldn't be a one-turn win).
Good point!
Looking down lists of cards in recent sets, I didn't see a single cycle in Tarkir block that would work for this: every single five-card cycle I could see was named things like "Abzan Charm" or "Anafenza, the Foremost", which don't really support reprinting into a different context.
But Gatecrash supplies the Primordials, so I took Diluvian Primordial and repositioned it into a cycle of 5/5s for 5CC that can reuse instants or sorceries somehow. "Every one of them should go nicely with prowess" was the theme I ended up going for, and created Primordial of Fraternity, Cruel Primordial, Incendiary Primordial and Wilderness Primordial.
Created for Challenge # 130 as a new cyclemate for Diluvian Primordial.
This is the weirdest of the abilities. It's hard to think of a way that green would be up for "reusing instants or sorceries"; this was my best take. The idea is that Rampant Growth goes straight back into your hand (as if you'd ultimated Tamiyo). As does Exploding Borders and Growth Spasm.
Created for Challenge # 130 as a new cyclemate for Diluvian Primordial. Snapcaster Mage apparently should have been red; see also Past in Flames. This is using Jace, Telepath Unbound's version of flashback (a tiny tweak on it) to allow it to be printed in a set that doesn't have flashback.
Created for Challenge # 130 as a new cyclemate for Diluvian Primordial. This ability may look a bit odd in black, but there is a little precedent, in Sins of the Past and Memory Plunder.
Created for Challenge # 130 as a new cyclemate for Diluvian Primordial.
Baseline import: Benevolent Bodyguard Created Monster: Benevolent Park Warden
Baseline import: Stinger Ray Created Monster: Gigantwave Ray
See Challenge # 131.
It took me a bit on how to upgrade an ability based on tapping from uncommon into mythic territory
Giant Spider -> Gargantuan Spider
See Challenge # 131.
See Challenge # 131.
I wanted to see how this challenge would look in blue
See Challenge # 131.
Raging Goblin -> Berserker Battallion
For Challenge # 131, based on Raging Goblin
Baseline import: Hunting Wolf
Created monster Hunting Tyrant
Come to think of this maybe "fight planeswalker" should be a standard ability, we need more planeswalker removal :)
See Challenge # 131, an upgraded version of Hunting Wolf for hunting planeswalkers.
Created for Challenge # 131, imported to the plane, upgraded into Hunting Tyrant.
