OK, since Showdown is a mechanic, we don't need a card for it, but we do need some splashy rares.
This is a bit similar to Go for Your Guns!, so I may change it, but the basic idea is to have a high-stakes showdown at a larger mana cost and rarity.
Not sure about size of effect and cost.
@Vitenka: even if I switch this, there will definitely be higher rarity cards where you show down with everyone (eg. winner gets something, or even loser gets something bad).
Well, it matters a lot less on rares without reminder text, but well spotted, thank you.
It was probably a mistake to make a second version with a suffix on the base name instead of "targeted" and "untargeted" because it gaurantees I'm going to keep forgetting, but I started with the first version because the rules still support changing targets even when there aren't any.
Edit: It even explains it on the mechanics page, I hadn't noticed. Thank you :)
Hm. That may well be right. I didn't like it because clash is basically random, but showdown lets you pick on a player who's low on cards. But OTOH, powering up these cards in multiplayer is probably fine. Yeah, ok, I think that's better. Thanks!
Mmm... it's not quite the same "Hah! I beat you all!" feeling, though. (Not to mention the abuse inherent in choosing an 'opponent' to team up with that deliberately lowballs it; or the likelihood of finding an opponent who has no cards in hand.. Hang on, what happens if you clash with someone that has no cards in deck? Ah; they fail to reveal so unless you reveal a CMC negative card, you're going to win. Makes sense.) Uh... where was I?
Right. Yeah; this ability is pretty minor. Ooh, one way you could spice it up: "Showdown with all opopnents! Put a +1/+1 counter on target creature. Put an additional one for each time you won the showdown."
I'd take my cue from Fistful of Force and choose one opponent to showdown with even if the card's text doesn't need to single out one opponent.
Yep, that's supported. I did the same in Clockwork Wings for deathtrap with different reminder text on creatures/other permanents. You probably want to make Offworld Reinforcements and Planetary Scan use the Untargeted version though :)
