I actually hadn't considered that angle of it!
There is a nice flicker style card in here already too that gives us a combo: Astral Conduit
But overall I'm just trying to come up with different ways to implement the reputation mechanic on cards.
"Whenever your reputation increases" is one form of it, though I don't want to overuse that form of it. I also am playing with cards that use it like "Equal to your reputation" and "If your reputation is 4 or greater". I like the variable nature of the mechanic's possibilities.
The reputation mechanic itself I'm viewing as a sort of "build around me" option, both for commander, and for a standard format with certain types of decks that dominantly or significantly use legendary cards to maximize reputation.
But I realize that the whole set can't and shouldn't be based on that "build around me" concept. Reputation is more like one major part of the set that people can build around, but the set will have to provide other options that are less restrictive, while still including a good share of legendary stuff.
Basically I have to balance between the fact that the set needs enough legendary and reputation-based cards for reputation to matter as a build-around-me, and the fact that too much focus on "legendary permanents matter" would make the set too niche/narrow/parasitic or make fruitful common and uncommon designs difficult. So I also have other competing themes with reputation such as loyalty and lore counters and sagas, gates and planes, some land matters subthemes, legendary instants and sorceries, etc.
"Flicker your legendary a lot" build-around?
