For the most part, yes. The setting is there, but it’s not the same as it had been. The story I wanted to tell here has more to do with the breakdown of both worlds as the aurora that separated them dissipates. As a result, some tribes have vastly changed in their goals, and the narrative purposes for several tribes have shifted to work around entirely new goals in a new narrative.
Venser’s spark has re-tethered itself to an artificial body, but it takes considerable effort to maintain that grasp. He’s come to Llorwyn/Shadowmoor to study the aurora that binds the halves of the plane together. To that end, he’s recruited Kithkin (mostly from the Shadowmoor side) to help directly scout the aurora’s edges, while the Flamekin are assisting him in building the equipment needed for any attempt at strengthening or altering the bonds — both the aurora’s and his own.
New mechanics by color pair:
W/U – Aspect matters (Kithkin)
W/B – Lifegain, total matters
W/R – Tokens (Kithkin & Goblins)
W/G – Kithkin tribal
U/B – Control
U/R – Artifacts (Flamekin)
U/G – Tempo
B/R – Single point damage (Cinders)
B/G – Sacrifice value (Elves)
R/G – Alt Ramp (Giants)
Not all tribes are strongly represented, I know. Working mostly solo, I opted to let that slide so I could focus more on the new themes.
So, I just checked out a random sample booster from this set... and you seem to have entirely abandoned the themes of Lorwyn & Shadowmoor. There are hybrids and tribes, but they are mechanically irrelvant, it seems.
I’d been leaning toward a different build that slowly “sapped” the opponent, but couldn’t get the wording to a place that I liked. I’ll be retooling this one.
Such a high mana cost for such a woeful aura.
It costs a card, and CR, for maybe dealing 1 damage and an eldrazi spawn? Yuck.
