Yeah it's a half life reference.
Maybe Black Mesa?
Haha. Fat Chance.
It reminds me of a George W. Bush quote that was something like "We are prepared for the unforseen".
Well, it reminds me of the flavour text on Armament Master.
templating
Anyone get where the flavor text is from?
I didn't realize this before, but this card works great with the scientific progress mechanic
add flavor text, reference to dog eating sprinkler
reminder text
subtypes: Warrior > Soldier Cleric
Good call Visitor, I think that makes much more sense, even though unlimited buffing seems like a better card. If it's switched it may be able to move back to common since it's not quite as good.
edited wording to accurately reflect what happens. I chose to not buff the new token because it would rarely matter since it can't attack the turn it CIP
The answer is that the controller of the Battle-Master is the one who draws cars from divination copy, and the Overrun would buff the controller of Battle-Master's creatures. Now that we know it's basically all upside (not counting things like Delirium Skeins and people hating you off the table), it'll probably need to cost more, maybe 1RR or 2RR, and it can stick as an X/2, so it's easy to kill.
Having it cost more will also help force the player into a better play of waiting until the game has developed a little more, so nobody just plops this down on turn 2 and gets hated out of the game. My point is that the closer your opponents are to being defeated, the less they're going to be able to do about the bomb critter, so the more likely you are to get a lot of value out of it instead of people just throwing away their spot removal on it.
You might want to make it "sacrifice a non-spirit" creature - as it is, after the first sacrifice it becomes: "2W: creature you control get +1/+1 until end of turn" since you can just keep reusing the spirit token as sac fodder. Maybe that was your intention, but it doesn't really make sense flavorfully to be able to sacrifice spirits.
Another idea would be to delay the creation of the spirit token (put the token into play at end of turn) a la Transluminant.
Well, that's the thing: I don't know if a copied Overrun would help your guys or the caster of Overrun's guys. I'll post the answer from Draw 3 cards as soon as someone answers.
Here's the link if anyone's interested. It's the Stack Exchange for MTG rules questions.
Ah. What happens when your opponents spells don't target does, very much so, change my appreciation of this guy. I missed the fact that you could play this, then be subjected to double Overrun. All right, I can accept it better. It still seems too cheap to me, but at least we aren't in wacky more range.
Ok, well a couple of things about the comparison you made: There's totally the possibility of nobody playing instants/sorceries, and instead hating your ass off the table with their creatures.
There's also the potential upside of this being a very political card in nature, it's a card where you can make or break the game with an ally, or just having everyone hate you because you have Fireball in your deck.
There's also the potential downside to the card, in that it's a forced ability, not optional. (Rules aside: Copying divination with this guy results in the controller of Battle-Master drawing 2 cards, correct? Because the controller of the spell is the controller of the thing that copied it, which is this critter?)
Then on the definite upside of this guy, you have the ability to get as many free cards as your opponent's can play. (see above though, it could be bad for the controller)
Ultimately, I think this guy may need to cost more, but it should also be noted that I'm okay with having the power level in this set be a little above average.
@Alex: Kami of the Cresecent Moon says "each player", the example card is just "draw a card". I probably should have pointed to the Kami to avoid that confusion... but I figured I'd just water down my argument by bringing up more talking points if I did.
Heh. That card is actually Kami of the Crescent Moon :P The conversion is pretty much Honden of Seeing Winds -> Archivist.
The only creature with this kind of effect that I can recall is Echo Mage, who needs 7 mana to get to this stage and even then only does it for , although he can level up further to an even madder version.
Oh, huh. Sorry, I hadn't read the rest of your file. No, that makes more sense. I should have read more into that '-'. Obviously, if every card with Skepticism said that, you wouldn't have bothered to add the dash.
Hmmm. What should I compare this too... Let's pretend this card existed:
5cc enchantment dude
Creature - Heffalump
At the beginning of your upkeep, draw a card.
1/2
Would you consider that card fair? Because your argument about the creature being killable would seem to infer that turning Honden of Seeing Winds into a 1/2 creature for UU is fine. I will, however, accept a side response that Curse of Echoes is over-expensive. I have no idea. I've never played with the card.
@jmgariepy: I get your point, but there were only like 9 cards in Innistrad which used Morbid
I think the card is okay, as Alex pointed out the vexing shusher. Also the fact that it's a 1/2 creature makes it much more vulnerable to removal than the curse or hive mind, because most decks main creature removal but not enchantment removal.
Also, I dunno if this is what you think but skepticism isn't bound to copying spells, it's just short for "Whenever a player casts an instant or sorcery spell, do something." or just checks for a spell being cast the same turn if it's on instants/sorceries.
This is more similar to Curse of Echoes. That also does the "nothing can be countered by your opponent" thing. And gets you pretty close to "You can't counter my stuff"; e.g. Vexing Shusher or Gaea's Herald.
On the subject of the card (I'm no big fan of letting the spambots win by sucking up all the conversation), I like Skepticism, though I'm confused as to why it needs to be made a keyword. I can't imagine having more than two of them in the same set... and even then, the second one would make the first one feel less special...
I'ts a pretty damn powerful ability, however. Hive Mind costs quite a hefty sum for, roughly, similar mindspace. This, for example, includes the line "Nothing can be countered", since any Cancel is bound to be copied and directed back at the original Cancel. "Nothing can be countered" has got to cost more than RR alone...
It's French. It's funny... it's like the spambot is intentionally spelling things wrong and adding numbers in an attempt to make it untranslatable through normal means. In case you're wondering, David, Micha and VStyle will be celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Computer Science School at Cesi Enterprises on the 12th of December... or something along those lines. Translating French always messes with my head, since they seem to say everything backwards from us. My indignant grandfather would point out that I'm saying everything backwards from him, however.
Did your filters catch it or did this guy just mess up, or is this something more hostile like code injection?
