Might need some comp-ruling for multiplayer games where you're not the last player in the game.
Otherwise; well, black instead of colourless. So maybe? I'd still upcost it a bit personally, but really, is much less problematic than for such an effect? I guess the real issue wiht making this cost only one would be "Well, why would I ever run any other cost creature?" It just erases oto much design space.
This ability has been suggested countless times in custom circles btw. It not so long ago got somewhat of a precedent in MTG with Xenagos Ascendend.
I could maybe see this as a 0/1 with that mana cost.
Well skeletons can be sacrificed and the myr is an uncommon.
Just thought I'd point out that Darksteel Myr cost for a reason. Also, better than every Skeleton printed in Magic by a country mile.
But otherwise, yeah this is pretty cool.
Now cannot leave. I don't think there's anything in the rules about a piece of text like this. This feels like rules lawyer levels of busted in terms of game rules but in terms of power level I can't figure out how to break it.
Worship and can't die to damage? Play multiple because what's the legendary rule gonna do to it? Maybe run an exemplar of strength type aggro deck?
Exile usually is used as a cost so not that hard really. Inverter of Truth, Mirror of Fate, Leveler, Arc-Slogger, Diminishing Returns, and Paradigm Shift to name a few cards that exile bunch of cards.
More about exile in general can be found in this old post of mine on MTG Salvation: Would anyone be up for creating an "exile matters" set?
How hard is it to get 20 cards in exile? Does this need to be upped?
I'm still not really seeing the need for this. Especially since it's taking up a precious precious uncommon slot.
It works, it's meh. Some of the suggested changes make it less meh - but still horribly horribly niche.
": target spell you control can't be countered by spells or abilities."?
I would, at minimum, make it so Insistence can't be countered.
Also, it saddens me to say, but 'block constructed' isn't a thing anymore. Or to be more precise, it's not a format officially supported for tournaments, ever since blocks decreased in size. I still think it's a fine card for casual. But I also think that Horror of Horrors is a fine card for casual, so... you know... opinions.
Blue is tertiary in "can't be countered". Black and white don't get it at all except on gold cards in combination with R/G/U. But apart from that, I agree with Tahazzar. Even if I had a deck that was suffering horribly from counterspells, this would be painful to play. If it just flat-out said "Spells you control can't be countered by spells or abilities" then that's one thing, but still charging per counterspell feels really depressing. Compare Vexing Shusher which is cheaper, can attack/block, and only charges 1 mana to protect a spell.
Well, if it's not op then I think it's ok. Sure, this won't see modern play but it could be seen in block constructed
This is lame compared to stuff like Vexing Shusher, Cavern of Souls or even Leyline of Lifeforce. This could easily say "spells you control can't be countered" and still it wouldn't be that amazing. Turning straight-up counterspells into Mana Leaks does basically nothing in non-EDH match ups. Would you like drop this and then wait till you can pay extra for your spells? That's inane.
Also, anti-counter tech is generally concentrated so that can stop creature spell countering while can block noncreature spell countering. In any case it's not in though pretty much a spell of any color can have the text of "~ can't be countered."
A less direct way to hose draw-go decks is use effects that force you to "play on your own turn" such as Dosan the Falling Leaf and (a more recent) Dragonlord Dromoka. That too is a effect.
EDIT: Actually that effect might have shifted to (Grand Abolisher) since is the color with the most "rule setting" cards such as Rule of Law.
Situational, but a nice sideboard card. I think it may need "by an effect an opponent controls" to avoid Shennanigans.
It's also kinda a blunt force thing. Like "Oh crap, counterspell decks are way too good, find a way to nerf them, yesterday!". Are they too good? Can you find a subtler way to reduce them in power?
I could make this mono-blue but I feel like it's power level is super high. It makes the hardest counterspells into mana leaks.
Mixing that weird restriction with that hacky kill style seems like doubly wrong.
I actually like Piqued Fires very much. Just add a reminder text with something like "Damage can’t be dealt to a permanent that’s neither a creature nor a planeswalker" and you got a serious cool card.
How about this?
Oops, yes. Although, huh, if it did say "target planeswalker gets -9/-9 UEOT", could you cast that on Sarkhan in response to its become-a-creature trigger and have it have the desired effect?
Surprised piqued fires wasn't one of mine :) I often think it be interesting and simplify templating to allow damage and other effects to target anything, and just have no effect if the target isn't compatible. Like, "deal 3 damage to target player or permanent", which suddenly is useful when they later print the first planeswalker :)
@izaac: Sarkhan, the Dragonspeaker stops being a planeswalker when he becomes a creature ;)
And Jack's comment reminds me now of Piqued Fires :)
I don't know if this is a good idea, but I really love the mirror name :)
Maybe "if an opponent controls more lands than you, they sacrifice a land"? That might be too awful, but seems like a black version of KOTWO.
