You know, I have no idea what I was thinking when I made this card, but commons should probably do what people expect them to do... so combat damage it is. Thank you.
Also, I like strangeness of "drawing cards is bad" as well. I've got a few more of these in 20XX, which I'll be putting up when I get my hands on the right file (I've got too many old copies around in too many computers...). One of the cards is Divination but with an additional +1 card for everyone. Let me tell ya... that is one powerful common, especially in set. The first time I played against an opponent who dropped that on me... it gets you to wisdom, it does.
Yeah, that's the standard method. Thank you and editing.
Hmm... that's a good point. I haven't tested the set out yet, and I'm sure someone would have pointed that out on day one, so I'm glad you stopped me ahead of time.
Oof. That is a stickler of a problem. Many players, like the mechanic's designer, wouldn't notice that you can't move the widget. That means that I have to spell out whether you can move it, or you can't... the reminder text is going to get longer either way. Might as well let people move the widget, like they would expect to happen, then. Luckily, I found a couple ways to shorten the text... and I'm using Alex's handy {insert mechanic here} tool... so double bonus. That thing's still a package of words. Here's hoping people like it, because if it gets a mediocre response, I'll have to cut it, or save it for a future wacky artifact set.
I have a question about Widgets. When they become fastened to another artifact, they lose the fasten ability, so they can't fasten to anything else, correct? So once attached, they stay on until the artifact leaves the battlefield.
I would love to see what you did with 20XX. Based on 20XD6, it seems like it would cool.
I like the interaction with hellbent. It's rare that card draw is a bad thing. Is it supposed to trigger off any damage dealt, not just combat damage?
Nice name. :)
Wording-wise, would it work better as "When Contract Annuller enters the battlefield, if your have five or more cards in your hand, you may discard a card. If you do, return target creature to its owner's hand."?
It's an idea... but I'm not sure if it would be one of those gadgets that you keep in the garage because it plays a specific function, but you never take out because you kind of forget you have it.
In the future, I'll know better to add a comment to every card with said wacky mechanic. Copy and Paste can save a lot of people a lot of time. I do like to hear people's responses, and I do like to hear people's first reaction to a card. But cards like this often evoke a response of "I'm trying to be helpful... I don't think you understand how the rules work." which is perfectly fair. I'd probably do the same thing if I had no warning.
Oh, hm... that is a possibility, isn't it? I'll look into it.
If you have images, Multiverse is happy to handle them. Look at The Oncoming Storm for an example.
Hmm, maybe I should make it easier for people to make a comment explaining "This is how this cycle works..." and have it appear on each card in the cycle.
I do love the Soothe / Grow / etc cycle of token instants, though. It's an awesome mechanic.
I've mentioned this on other pages, but I'll probably have to mention it for every one of these cards. That's cool. I don't mind talking alot.
No, this does not work with the current rules. But, yes, this is cool. I've gotten a lot of comments along the lines of "This is neat, but the rule don't..". That's fine. The Comprehensive Rulebook has a new rule for 20XX that talks about token instants. It states that token instants can only exist in your hand and on the stack. Also, the token instants in your hand are always open knowledge to your opponent. On the first day we draft 20XD6, I plan to announce this to everyone... that and go over how 'widgets' work, because the rares don't have reminder text.
Which reminds me, that at some point, I should just put 20XX on Multiverse. Problem is, it's a year old. But I need to go back and clean it up anyway for public consumption. I've never figured out exactly what I'm supposed to be doing when I go to print these cards. I used MTGMaker for 20XX, and the cards look really nice, but gathering the images alone took me way too long. I might just want to put the cards into Multiverse, then reprint everything with 20XD6. It wouldn't be as pretty, but at least all the cards would be together.
Because this card is affected by my previous core set. The cards in 20XX ask you to put a card named Pearled Unicorn into your hand. If I changed this card, I'd have to go back and change ten total other cards in 20XX (for the entire cycle x2 cards) plus, I'd have to do that for the third evolution of this cycle in the third set of the block... and I'm likely to make yet another card named 'Pearled Unicorn' in that set as well.
Honestly, all this stuff works well from this angle. It's easily the most popular mechanic in 20XX... it just really, really looks weird when all you have to look at is 20XD6.
Why not make this "You may choose a card named Pearled Unicorn or Pearled Charger you own from outside the game, reveal that card, and put it into your hand." Then Pearled Charger becomes vanilla and makes more sense.
Either way, you should change the wording to match the rest of the Wishes, like I did in my example. The ownership and reveal clauses are important.
Don't tokens not on the battlefield cease to exist? This seems like you would need a large tweak to the rules for this work.
Nice; the simpler form of Stinkweed Imp.
