Hope this works the way I want. The emblems stack so he incentivises your opponents to not kill him unless they really have to. And, because they are emblems in your command zone, opponents can't get rid of them easily (if at all).
The Deathtouch ability is primarily there to expand his colour identity.
He is great as a General but almost useless in a normal game of Magic where he will usually die very quickly and his ETB ability is irrelevant.
Added "from the Command Zone" to limit his brokenness with blink style abilities.
Should it be "Whenever you cast ~ from the Command Zone"?
Possibly but that would still give you an emblem even if he was countered. This way you gets it on resolution.
Unfortunately he never ETBs from the command zone. He goes from the command zone to the stack, then from the stack to the battlefield.
Also, I don't think "useless in a normal game of Magic" is a good quality for a legendary creature to have.
I agree with Alex on that last bit. Maybe "Whenever ~ dies" would work better.
OK changed it to "whenever you cast" giving you an emblem, making him useful in regular games whilst still preventing blink shenanigans.
You could make it "Whenever ~ ETB, if you cast it, stuff...", maybe.
Baron Samedi? Also, this is kind of how I wanted my design to be. Good job with the emblems.
Yeah, I like the way the resusable effect is represented (although I still dislike the idea of emblems in general).
After I saw this, I was looking at the creatures released for EDH specifically, and surprised to see that with Skullbriar, the Walking Grave wizards took an incredibly direct way of cutting through that gordian knot of a similar problem, which I literally didn't think of doing myself.
Yeah it is a rip-off of Baron Samedi, didn't want to use the actual name though so I changed it up a bit.
Yeah, the only Issue I can see with Skullbriar is keeping track of how many counters he has whenever he leaves play - adds a bit of bookkeeping which is why I went with emblems instead.
