Random Magic generator gave me Keldon Megaliths and Plains. Plains color shifts Megaliths into a White card. Huh. It took a little while, but I figured out how to reverse the card... even if white doesn't normally get direct damage, I think it could if people weren't playing by its rules.
Obv. much better in multiplayer. Thought about it only affecting the player who was Hellbent, but that wouldn't be as much fun, would it? ;P
This still feels rather out-of-pie. How about "1 damage to target player with no cards in hand or to target attacking or blocking creature whose controller has no cards in hand"? It's the "attacking or blocking" restriction that I think really needs to be there.
You know, I get what you're saying, and I think the vast majority of the Magic playing audience would agree with you, but I think I'm going to stick to my guns with this one. This seems to me to be a natural extension of White's philosophy. Red says things like, "Let me do what I want, or I'll hit you!", ala Browbeat. I don't see why White can't say "Follow the letter of the law, or I will strike you down!" Or, in the form of another argument, if we agree that white can deal direct damage when attacking and blocking, why can't we agree that white can deal damage in other ways that match its outlook on life?
That being the case, I'm going to pull back the weirdness by having the card only target players. After all, proper crime, proper punishment. Your creatures didn't break the rules; You did.
