Heh. Oh, 613.1d-f, why must you thwart us so?

Wait, why doesn't this work? I was expecting the layers to be in the wrong order, but aren't color and type applied before P/T? What did I forget?

Ability granting happens before P/T but after colour and type :)

Wait, so "creatures you control have devoid" just doesn't work at all? Doh!

I personally lobby for giving each layer a sublayer that specifically calls out characteristics-defining abilities being applied first. No one returns my calls on that one.

That's how it already does work, but this isn't a conflict between "beginning of layer 6" and "later in layer 6". Something that happens at the beginning of layer 6 is already too late to affect what happens in layers 4 and 5.

Hah. And the Release Notes for Slivdrazi Monstrosity (which has rules text "Slivers you control have devoid and have annihilator 1") say:

> Due to the carefully calibrated system of layers that Magic uses to determine the interaction of continuous effects, gaining an ability that changes the color of an object has no effect on the color of that object. Despite this, Slivdrazi Monstrosity causes Slivers to become colorless as they gain devoid. Rather than try to figure out how this could work, this card should just be played as though it read "Slivers you control have devoid and annihilator 1 and are colorless."

Mess with it further?
Creatures you control have "Spells and effects treat this creature as colourless".
