this feels like the cleanest implementation of desaturate i've come up with yet. i figure IRL i'll have helper overlay cards that explain what face-down lands do

changed loot to twiddle

untapping things could go well in a potential {u}{w} prayer/blessing/twiddle deck, so this seems a good change to make. also i'm stapling hand manipulation to a lot of stuff in blue, and twiddling things feels a lot like something a worker might do

So adorable :) Process seems pretty parasitic, though; have you considered using +1/+1 counters instead?

no need, the counters work well within the context of the set as a standalone environment (it doesn't have to play nice with real sets):

  • the cards that use essence counters all achieve their goals independently of the support cards
  • the process cards get a natural upside from the ability so it's still relevant without cards that need the counters
  • there's plenty of reasons to want your creatures to die/be in your graveyard in {u}{b}
  • there's a few cards that will be able to work by removing counters from creatures you control, which makes the counters that land on creatures that don't need them not entirely useless
  • putting counters on creatures triggers symbiotic
  • essence counters are spread across all colours, so they're well supported in multiple archetypes and colour combinations

+1/+1 counters muddy the waters by interfering with combat, and i want this set to tend more in the direction of utility creatures. that means the main counter type needs to provide utility rather than combat prowess
