another card that just doesn't seem like an elf. Since when were elves huge predators?

Flavor is an elvish hunter. There are numerous elves who are larger (or can be larger) than 3/3.

However, this card is a possible choice for re-flavoring.

Give it trample! Scab-Clan Mauler, GG is just as hard as RG these days, Garruk's Companion exists, who cares.

Trample was left off in a desire to not be too much like Garruk's Companion (and the 3/3 trampler for 1GG), as well as a way to give Trampling Hooves more of an importance (same reason the common fatties don't trample).

As I've said before, not everything needs to trample.
