Seems a bit too good for six; evading 5/5 is bad enough without the risk of how hideous it gets with trample.

5/5 with some ability is completely standard for blue rare: see Keiga, the Tide Star amongst several other examples. The effect is pretty strong, I'll admit, but I think it's in line with the power level of current rare creatures. Actually, this could perhaps become a mythic, since I don't think this effect in this kind of repeatable form has been printed before.

I like it and, as you say, given the current power level of creatures this shouldn't be an issue

Moved to mythic because this kind of repeatable gain-control hasn't been done before, to distinguish from Buccaneer of the Air, and to free up a rare blue creature slot.

I agree it's fine as a rare/mythic (and agree it doesn't need the "as long as you control this" restriction).

Hmm... both of my blue mythics (this and Aquila the Maverick) deal with gaining control of multiple permanents. I wonder if this is too pigeonholed?

Looking at all printed blue mythics so far, there really aren't many categories:

  • 4 that draw piles of cards
  • 3 that take extra turns
  • 3 that heavy-mill
  • 3 lockdown
  • 3 powerful tutor effects (counting Mystical Tutor and Tinker as mythics, which is dubious)
  • 2 repeated stealing opponents' stuff
  • 2 creatures that come back repeatedly
  • 2 copy effects
  • 1 potentially free mass counter

Heh. Mystical and Tinker were uncommons. I think I can see Tinker as a Mythic Rare... even if it is more just a mistake of a card. If it had a casting cost of {5}{u}, let's say, I could see it being printed as a Mythic Rare. Mystical Tutor, however, has rare written all over it. Nothing about the card screames "Fun!" or "Splashy!". It's just a really really strong card.
