Bad cardname is bad. Cost and sorcery speed are based on the (possibly incorrect) presumption Pit Fight is pushed HARD vs. Prey Upon.
This is very close to pure removal, in green. It still seems too cheap; but I guess the time when +2 isn't quite enough to kill a dude, it'll be frustrating and you want to have it cheap enough that you can cast two.
It's a sorcery, so there's a bit of balance there. It does seem considerably better than Death Bomb... but many cards do. I can dig it. I'm not too fond of green getting the removal it's been getting, but if it's going to get removal, this is the removal it gets.
I'm pretty confident green will get a boost+fight card combo eventually (it's obvious enough design, and you already get this for with Prey Upon+Giant Growth), but beats me what it'll actually look like.
Hunt the Hunter was spoiled today ( sorcery, "Target green creature you control gets +2/+2 until end of turn. It fights target green creature an opponent controls."). I must say I am pleased with myself.
Hunt the Hunter is a lot crappier than this.
Um, it's kinda.. identical but cheaper to cast? Oh, this doesn't say UEOT. I'd assumed that was ommision, not on purpose. If this were to be two +1/+1 counters, that would be a lot better, yes.
oh, definitely an omission! Thanks for pointing that out...
So, it turns out this is probably a little too good if Savage Punch is to be trusted, but just a little too good given Epic Confrontation.
Apparently I was quite off given Wild Instincts.
Or rather, those cards are tailored for different Limited environments. I imagine Wild Instincts started off at 3 mana, and Development would have been happy to knock it down to 2 or up to 4 according to how the different colours and colour-pairs were working out in Limited. Presumably green was a smidgen too good when it was 3, so up to 4 it went.
Personally I suspect that 2G is actually a little pushed for this as a common (cf. also Hunt the Weak). Plus with white losing the protection spells, all the removal spell have simultaneously jumped up in value (as I noticed playing g/b at the prerelease). Interestingly, that very change seriously amped up the value of Fiery Conclusion against fight and cards like Unholy Hunger.
